Narrative Description
‘’Dapchi Raid’’ Game is a simulative narrative that focuses on creating awareness on the ‘’State of the Nation; Boko Haram terrorist group activities’’ in Nigeria, with a nexus of themes, including fact-finding/checking, news production and consumption AND curation in Nigerian journalism through an innovative immersive account of the events surrounding the raid of Dapchi town, Yobe State, Northern Nigeria on 19th February, 2018. ’Dapchi Raid’’ game was born out of the impulsion to inform the larger public interested in finer details of the events surrounding the Dapchi raid. By deploying gaming and virtual reality technologies, this game aims to provide information about the events, increase awareness, incite empathy with an overarching objective of motivating civic actions. By simulation, participants are present at the scene of the kidnap and ‘celebrated return’ of Dapchi girls, a group of young school girls who were kidnapped by Boko Haram, the Jihadist militant organization in Nigeria on the aforementioned date. The simulation approach allows participants choose an act; ''Dapchi girl'', ''Parent'', or ''Journalist'', thereby fostering deeper understanding of the event.
